ABSTRAK

New words come into English from every aspect of life including technology. As technology product, Social Media has contributed on new words or old word with any formations. There are some words that are commonly used in Social Media. The words could be analyzed by using word-formation processes as the way of creating new words. The problem formulations of this research are what kinds of word-formation processes used in Social Media are and what kind of word-formation processes most often used in Social Media is. The objectives of the research are to determine the kinds of word-formation processes used in Social Media and to find out the most kind of word-formation processes used in Social Media. The subject of this research is Social Media. The object of this research is word-formation processes used in Social Media. To collect the data, the writer uses some techniques, such as observing, noting, eliminating, re-checking, and taking evidence. Then, all the data are analyzed descriptively. The result of this research states that the researcher found 50 common words in social media formed by using acronym, backformation, blending, clipping, compounding, derivation, and multiple processes. In this research, the researcher can conclude that seven kinds of word-formation processes were used in Social Media. The researcher found out that acronym is the kind of word-formation processes that has the highest percentage which is 29,77% or 25 acronyms .
