Dina Hermina, M. Pd Advisor II Rahmila Murtiana, MA This research describe about the application of cooperative learning “jigsaw” in teaching reading. The problem formulation in this research is how the application cooperative learning “jigsaw” in teaching reading to students of eleventh grade at MAN 4 Marabahan year 2011/2012 and why is the application cooperative learning “jigsaw” used in teaching reading to students of eleventh grade at MAN 4 Marabahan year 2011/2012. The subject in this research is all students of eleventh grade of science study program with 26 students. The object in this research is the application of cooperative learning “jigsaw”. Technique of data collecting in this research is observation, test, interview and documentary. Whereas the technique of processing data analysis is editing, interpretation, tabulating and data analysis. To analyze the data the writer uses descriptive qualitative analysis. The result of this research shows that the application of cooperative leaning “Jigsaw” in teaching reading to students of eleventh grade at MAN 4 Marabahan is well because the teacher does almost all of component or steps in teaching-learning process using cooperative learning “Jigsaw” and it suitable with the principles of cooperative learning. As improvement of students’ score achievement in pre-test and post-test it was known that the teacher successful in applying cooperative learning “jigsaw”. The teacher’s reason in applying cooperative learning “jigsaw” in teaching reading are to motivate and give an innovation in teaching-learning process. It purposes to grow up students’ spirit and give students understanding about English is not boring lesson.
