Masliyana. 2010. A Descriptive Study of Eight Year Students’ ability in Using Conjunction at MtSN Amawang Kandangan South Hulu Sungai Regency Academic Year 2009/2010. Thesis, English Department, Islamic Education Faculty. Advisor: (I) Dr. Anang Syaifuddin, MA, (II) Nurlaila Kadariyah, S.Ag This research is conducted based on consideration that the ability of student in using conjunction as one of eight part of speech and as an aspect of grammar is important thing in mastering English. If the student incorrectly in using conjunction, it makes the students confused to understand the sentences. Based on the reason the writer is interested to make a research the students’ ability in using conjunction. The Formulation of the problem of this research is how is the ability of the eight year students’ ability in using conjunction at Amawang Islamic Junior High School Kandangan academic year 2009/2010. The purpose of this research is to find out the ability of the eight year student in using conjunction at Amawang Islamic Junior High School Kandangan academic year 2009/2010. The population of this research are all of the eight year students at Amawang Islamic Junior High School Kandangan academic year 2009/2010, there are 7(seven) classes as many as 232 ( two hundred thirty two) students. Sample of this research are 25% (twenty five percent) as many as 58 (fifty eight) students that taken by using proportional random sampling technique. In this research writer collected the data through written test, interview, observation, and documentary. While in processing the data, it used editing, coding, scoring, tabulating, and data interpretation. Then the data about the students’ ability in using conjunction is analyzed by descriptively and qualitatively, and concluded by using inductive method. The result of this research is described that the degree of students’ ability in using conjunction of eight year student at MtSN Amawang Kandangan academic year 2009/2010 is in sufficient category with the mean score 52,57. Most of the students is incorrectly in using contrasting idea conjunction (but), there are 19,52%(ninty point fifty two) it is about 11 (eleven) students. Whereas there are 10,76% or 6 (six) students incorrectly in using additional conjunction (and). So the total of the students are confused with the function of the conjunction or incorrectly in using conjunction is 45,59% or about 26 (twenty six) students.
