ABSTRAK

Patiah. 2010. The Interference of Indonesian Word Order to the Students’ English Writing of English Department of Tarbiyah Faculty IAIN Antasari Banjarmasin. Thesis, English Department. Tarbiyah Faculty. Advisor: (I) DR. Anang Saifuddin, M. A., (II) Dra. Andi Irlina, M. Hum This research describes the interference of Indonesian word order in English writing which are made by students of English Department of Tarbiyah Faculty IAIN Antasari Banjarmasin academic year 2009/2010 especially those who are taking Writing B subject. The problems limitations of this research are what kinds of Indonesian word order that interfere the students’ English writing and what kinds of interference encountered by the students’ in writing English of the fourth semester of English Department. The subjects of this research are 57 students of fourth semester of English Department Tarbiyah Faculty IAIN Antasari Banjarmasin academic year 2009/2010. To collect the data the writer used some techniques such as observation, documentary, interview and taking written test (subjective test). Data processing in this research are divided into four phases: editing, coding, frequency computation, and tabulating. All the collected and processed data are analyzed descriptively and qualitatively. The conclusion is taken by inductive way that is to synthesize the facts into general conclusion. The result of this research indicates that 38 students make mistakes in word order in sentence which the number of interference is 89 and kinds of interference that often occur which is made by 46 students is grammatical interference, which the number of interference is 138 involves 62 interference of morphological aspect and 76 interference of syntax aspect. The students make interference because of lack of vocabulary and less understand the grammatical structure of English.
