Mahnita. 2011. The Analysis of Students’ Error in Using Direct and Indirect Speech of the First Grade at SMAN 1 Muara Uya Tabalong Regency in the Academic Year 2010/2011. Thesis, English Department. Tarbiyah Faculty. Advisor: (1) Dr. H. Ahdi Makmur , M.Ag. (II) Raida Asfihana, M.Pd This research describes the analysis of students’ errors in using Direct and Indirect Speech of the first grade at SMAN 1 Muara Uya Tabalong Regency in Academic Year 2010/ 2011. The problems of this research are formulated as follows: 1) How is the degree of the first grade students’ errors in using direct and indirect speech, 2) What kinds of errors are usually made by the first grade students’ of SMAN 1 Muara Uya. Based on the formulation above, the purposes of this research are to know about the degree of students’ errors in using Direct and Indirect Speech and kinds of errors made by students. The population of this research is 200 students. The sampling technique that used in this research is random sampling. There are six classes in first grade in this school. The writer takes 30% sample from population or about 60 students in total. To collect the data the writer uses some techniques such as written test and documentary. Data processing in this research divided into four phases such as editing, coding, tabulating and interpretation. Then, all the data are analyzed qualitatively and concluded by inductive method. The result of this research is that the first grade students in using Direct and Indirect Speech at SMAN 1 Muara Uya Tabalong Regency are in fair category and then errors mostly made by students in using Direct and Indirect Speech is in Simple Past Tense.
