ABSTRAK

Norlena. 2011. A Comparative Study between the English Teachers from English and Non-English Educational Background of Students’ Achievement at MTsN Sungai Durian Tabalong Regency Academic Year 2010/2011. Thesis, English Department. Tarbiyah Faculty. Advisor: (I) Dra. Hj. Nida Mufidah, M.Pd, (II) Dra. Dina Hermina, M.Pd. This research describes a comparative study between English teachers from English and non-English educational background in their own teaching English and their students’ achievement at MTsN Sungai Durian Tabalong regency academic year 2010/2011. The formulation of problems of this research are: Is there any significance different in teaching English that conducted by teachers of English educational background and teachers of non-English educational background at MTsN Sungai Durian Tabalong Regency in Academic Year 2010/2011?, Is there any different in students’ achievement of English that taught by English teachers from English and non-English educational background at MTsN Sungai Durian Tabalong Regency in Academic Year 2010/2011?, and what are the things that can influence the students’ achievement in English class? The subjects of this researches are 4 English teachers at MTsN Sungai Durian Tabalong regency academic Year 2010/2011. The object of the research is A Comparative Study between the English Teachers from English and Non-English Educational Background of Students’ Achievement at MTsN Sungai Durian Tabalong Regency Academic Year 2010/2011 The data of this research are collected through observation, interview, questionnaire, and documentary. All collected data then processed systematically through editing, coding, scoring, tabulating, and data interpretation. After that, all the data are analyzed descriptively and quantitatively and concluded by using inductive method The result of this research indicates that the teaching English of teachers from English educational background at MTsN Sungai Durian is in very high category with the mean score 91,75 from 16 meetings of teaching English and the students’ achievement in English lesson that taught by English teachers from English educational background is in good category with the mean score 73,80 from 49 students. Meanwhile, the teaching English of teachers from non-English educational background at MTsN Sungai Durian is in below average category with the mean score 65,875 from 16 meetings of teaching English and the students’ achievement that taught by English teachers from non-English educational background is in fair category with the mean score 67,34 from 58 students. From the results of the calculation by using student “t” (ttest) formula is gained the test result ttest= 10.07. After consulting with ttable (tt) in the significance standard level 1% and 5%. There is significance difference of teaching English of English teachers from English and non-English educational background at MTsN Sungai Durian, and English teachers from English educational background have better ability than English teachers from non-English educational background in teaching English. Meanwhile, for students’ achievement, from the results of the calculation by using student “t” (ttest) formula is gained the test result ttest= 5.008. After consulting with ttable (tt) in the significance standard level 1% and 5%. There is significance difference of students’ achievement that taught by English teachers from English and non-English educational background at MTsN Sungai Durian, and English teachers from English educational background better than English teachers from non-English educational background in students’ achievement. So, the writer suggests that the teachers should increase their ability in teaching English by joining English courses or training of English especially for teachers from non-English educational background and the teachers also should arise and motivate the students in mastering English lesson in order to increase their achievement.
