ABSTRAK

Supian B, 2011, The Influence of Vocabulary Mastery on Students’ Reading Skill at Islamic Senior High School Darul Hijrah Putra Cindai Alus Martapura in Academic year 2010/2011. Thesis, English Department, Tarbiyah Faculty, Advisor: (1) Dra. Dina Hermina, M.Pd (2) Dra. Hj. Wardah Hayati, MA This research is principally aimed to know the level of students’ vocabulary mastery and the level of students’ reading skill at Islamic Senior High School Darul Hijrah Putra Cindai Alus Martapura and how is the influence of the students’ vocabulary mastery on their reading skill. The research is conducted at Islamic Senior High School Darul Hijrah Putra Cindai Alus Martapura. The population of this research is the students of eleven grade of Islamic Senior High School Darul Hijrah Putra Cindai Alus Martapura in Academic year 2010/2011. The total populations are 125 students, they are consist of 4 classes, and the writer takes 37 students as a sample. The data of this research are collected through written test, interview, observation, and documentary. All collected data are then processed systematically through editing, coding, scoring, tabulating, and data interpretation. After the data of the students’ vocabulary and reading skill were collected, the data were statistically computed with using product moment formula to find out the influence between the two variables. From the tests, it was found out that the mean of the scores of the vocabulary test is 51.08. It means that the mean of the scores of the vocabulary test is fair. The mean of the scores of the students’ reading skill is 62.91. This means that the mean of the scores of reading skill test is good. By using product moment formula, that the result of r_xy is 0.802. This result is bigger than degree significance in 95% (r_t ) 35=0,334, and degree significant in 99% (r_t ) 35= 0,340. It means that there is a significant positive correlation between students’ vocabulary and students’ reading skill at Islamic Senior High School Darul Hijrah Putra Cindai Alus Martapura in Academic year 2010/2011. So, alternative hypothesis (ha), there is significant positive correlation between students’ vocabulary and students’ reading skill is accepted. It meant that null hypothesis (ho), there is no significant positive correlation between students’ vocabulary and students’ reading skill is rejected.
