Noor Maulidiyah, M.A. Keywords: Mind Mapping Technique, Ability, Reading Comprehension This research was aimed to improve the students’ reading comprehension through mind mapping technique. This research examined the implementation of mind mapping to improve students’ achievement in reading comprehension, and whether or not mind mapping can improve the ability and achievement in reading comprehension of the eighth grade students of MTs. Inayatuththalibin Banjarmasin. The research was conducted in MTs. Inayatuththalibin which located on Jalan Belitung Darat Gg. Inayah No. 42 Rt. 32, West Banjarmasin. Forty grade eight students of MTs. Inayatuththalibinwere taught by using mind mapping technique to improve their reading comprehension.The method of thisresearch is Classroom Action Research (CAR). The research was conducted in three cycles. There were two kinds of instruments to gather data in this classroom action research; they were test and observation sheet. Based on the findings of the research, the reading comprehension achievement of the eighth grade students of MTs. Inayatuththalibin Banjarmasin has improved through mind mapping technique. It can be seen from the comparison of the pre-test and post-tests. The mean score of the pre-test in the first cycle was 54.75 while the mean score of the first post-test in the second cycle was 67.75 and the mean score of the second post-test in the third cycle was 78.75. The mean score obtained by the subject of the study in the third cycle was clearly higher than the mean score of the pre-test in the first cycle and the first post-test in the second cycle. Therefore, it can be concluded that mind mapping technique was effective in improving the reading comprehension ability and achievement of the eighth grade students of MTs. Inayatuththalibin Banjarmasin in academic year 2014/2015.
