ABSTRAK

Nur Aprianti. 2015. Teachers’ Techniques in Improving Students’ Speaking Skill at The English Village Marabahan-Barito Kuala Regency. Thesis, English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher’s Training. Advisor: Dr. H. Husnul Yaqin, M. Ed. Keywords; teachers, techniques of teaching speaking, The English Village-Marabahan The teachers need techniques in order to improve students’ speaking skill. The English Village-Marabahan is one of informal English Courses which provides some programs for helping students to speak English. The problems formulation of this research are: what techniques used in teaching speaking at The English Village Marabahan, how is the application of the techniques, and what is the students’ response towards teachers’ techniques. The subjects in this research are 7 English teachers and 53 students at The English Village Marabahan. The object of this research are techniques of English teaching and learning in speaking skill and the students’ response towards teachers’ techniques. To collect the data, the writer uses observation, interview, documentation, and questionnaire. The result of the research denoted that the techniques used by teachers in regular program are; brainstorming, getting students to self-correct, memorization, repetition drill, using songs, games, and question and answer. Whereas the techniques used by the teacher in holiday program are; presentation, chain drill, question and answer exercise, discussion, and recording to the students’ monologue. The result of the research about the application of the techniques used by the teachers in regular program: In brainstorming, the teachers use the students’ existed knowledge to speak. In getting students to self-correct, the students correct their own mistake. In memorization, the students memorize vocabularies or sentences. Whereas the application of the techniques used by the teachers in holiday program: In presentation, the teacher asks students to present a presentation. In chain drill, the teacher asks students to express their ideas. In discussion, the teacher asks students to discuss. The result of this research about the students’ response toward teachers’ technique in regular program; 100% students feel happy with the techniques used by the teachers, and in holiday program, 46% students said that the teacher uses different techniques in teaching.
