English Department, Tarbiyah and Teachers Training Faculty. Advisors: Raida Asfihana, M. Pd. Keywords: Strategies, Teacher, Speaking Speaking is a crucial part of second language teaching and learning. Teaching speaking can be done through some ways or some strategies. The writer is interested in this matter and wants to find out what are the strategies that the teacher applied in the classroom, especially for aviation program. The statements of problem of this research are: What are the teacher strategies in teaching speaking at Banua Avia Education (B.A.E) Academic Year 2015/2016 and how is the students’ ability in speaking at Banua Avia Education (B.A.E) Academic Year 2015/2016. The subjects in this study are an English teacher and all of students at Banua Avia Education. While the objective of this research are the strategies that used by the English teacher and the student’s ability in speaking at Banua Avia Education. The kind of this research is descriptive and quantitative. To collect the data, the writer uses some techniques such as observation, oral test, interview, and documentary. The writer observed the process of teaching and learning English by English teacher. And the writer also did an oral test to the students to know how the students’ ability in speaking is. The writer did interview to get information about the school. And took some documents to complete the data. Data processing in this study is divided into four phases: editing, coding, tabulating, scoring and data interpretation. The result of this research states that the English teacher used some strategies during teaching process, they are brainstorming, drilling and repetition, and role play. It can be seen from he opened the class, explained the material, until he closed the class, he always used the strategies in teaching speaking. The students’ ability in speaking can be categorized fair category. It can be seen from the result of oral test, with mean score is 63.9.
