ABSTRAK

Wenny Noorahim. 2014. Developing English Speaking Material for Girls’ Language Dormitory at Islamic Al-Falah Boarding School Banjarbaru. Thesis. English Education Department, Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training. Advisor: Puji Sri Rahayu, MA. Keywords: Development, Speaking, ability. This research was aimed to develop Basic English speaking material for Girls’ Language Dormitory at Islamic Al-Falah Boarding School. The problems of this research is how the students’ ability and what is the English speaking material needed for Girls’ Language Dormitory at Islamic Al-Falah Boarding School developed are. In this study, the problems are focused only for developing English speaking material for Girls’ Language Dormitory at Islamic Al-Falah Boarding School. The try out subject of this research are 29 students class control and 31 students class experiment at Girls’ Language Dormitory that both of classes was chosen 34 students by random to done the try out. The type of this research is research and development (R&D). It is a research to develop and validate educational products. The techniques of collecting data used are interview, questionnaire, checklist, observation, and test. The procedures of research are based on the R&D cycle in which consists of need analysis, design, development, expert validation, revision, and final product. The experts’ validation showed that material developed had given some categories for each item in the checklist for material evaluation. Although, there are some material should be revised such as the kind of exercises, the characters names, and some misspelling and grammatical error. In addition, the result of tests shows that means of students’ scores class control and class experiment are 63.52 and 77.05. The “t” test comparing the two means showed that the difference between them is 13.53 with a t-value out; there is a significant increase in the students speaking ability. In conclusion, the material developed can be used as a supplementary material for helping the teacher to develop students speaking skill.
