A Comparative Study Between Students Who Use and Do Not Use Pin in their Speaking Ability of Tenth Grade at State Senior High School of Paringin 2 Balangan Regency Academic Year 2014/2015. Advisor: Rahmila Murtiana SS., MA Keywords: Comparative, use pin, do not use pin, ability, speaking This research is conducted at the tenth grade of State Senior High School of Paringin 2 Balangan regency academic year 2014/2015. The problem formulations of this research are: 1) How is the speaking ability of students who use pin? 2) How is the speaking ability of students who do not use pin? 3) Are there any significant differences between students who use and do not use pin in their ability in speaking skill? 4) What aspects do the students differ in their speaking ability? Is it in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, or comprehension? Based on the statement of problems above, this research is supposed to know the students’ speaking ability who use and do not use pin, to find out whether there are any significant differences between students who use and do not use pin, and to find out the aspects that students differ in their speaking ability of tenth grade at State Senior High School of Paringin 2 Balangan regency academic year 2014/2015. The subjects of this research are 33 students of tenth grade at State Senior High School of paringin 2 Balangan regency Academic Year 2014/2015. The object of the research is comparison of students’ ability in speaking skill between the students who use and do not use pin of tenth grade at State Senior High School Paringin 2 Balangan regency academic year 2014/2015. The data is collected by using techniques such as test, interview, observation, and documentary. Data processing in this research is divided into five phases: editing, scoring, classifying, tabulating and interpreting. All the data are analyzed quantitatively. Then, they are concluded inductively. The results from this study indicate that the students’ speaking ability who use pin are in good category by mean score 75 and for the students’ speaking ability who do not use pin are in fair category by mean score 66.5. The result of the calculation using t-test is 4.02 with t-table at df 30 in the significance standard 5%= 2.04 and also 1% = 2.75. Thus t-count is higher than t-table. It means that H_o (Zero Hypothesis) is rejected and H_a (Alternative Hypothesis) is accepted. By this result, the writer concludes there are significant differences in students’ speaking ability between students’ who use and do not use pin of tenth grade at State Senior High School of Paringin 2. And the students’ speaking ability is different in all aspects of speaking, they are in pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension. Based on the result of the test, the total score of students who use pin for pronunciation is …, for grammar is …, for vocabulary is …, for fluency is …, and then, for comprehension is … . and the total score of students who do not use pin for pronunciation is …, for grammar is …, for vocabulary is …, for fluency is …, and then, for comprehension is … .
